Round Digger, serial number CDN. 502, is a demolition robot created by Cherry Dynamics and a boss enemy that appears in the City stage.

Story Edit

The Round Digger is one of the many robots gone berserk rampaging throughout the City. Beck passes by the Round Digger twice as he traverses the street, but both times it destroys a part of the road with dynamite sticks and takes off. Beck later finds that the Round Digger has tunneled its way into the SANDA Technologies laboratory. Fearing that it may destroy the entire laboratory, Beck faces off against the Round Digger. Eventually, the Round Digger is defeated and returned to normal.

Boss Battle Edit

As the first boss of the game, the Round Digger has a straightforward attack pattern and large periods of vulnerability between attacks. However, only its head is vulnerable to damage.

For its first attack, Round Digger will retract its legs and rotate its body to roll forward. It will continue forward until it collides with a wall, then turn around and replant its legs. This attack can be avoided by jumping and dashing over the Round Digger as it approaches. At the beginning of the fight, the Round Digger will be in the middle of the room in front of the player and will start with this attack to position itself near the left wall. Destabilizing and absorbing the Round Digger before it completes this initial charge will award the player a "Fine Play" bonus.

For its second attack, the Round Digger will launch two dynamite sticks with propellers into the air in an arc in front of itself. The dynamite sticks will gradually rise higher into the air before homing in on the player at once. They can be easily destroyed with any attack, and successfully destroying them all before they begin to home in will award the player with a "Fine Play" bonus the first time it is done.

For its third attack, the Round Digger will launch a powerful stream of water at the ceiling. It will go over the ceiling twice, once forward and once backward. Four damaging blocks of rubble will fall in a trail behind the backward stream. There is a gap between the first and second two falling blocks, making the center of the room a safe spot.

Fine Play bonusEdit

  • Destroy the three sticks of dynamite before they to move towards the player
  • AcXelerate into it during its charge attack

On Mighty Gunvolt Burst, the Round Digger appears again as a boss for the intro stage. This time, it seems to be bigger and since Beck's dash is disabled in the game, he can't jump over it. However, some platforms have been added to its boss room, that also serve to the player as a shield to its bombs (but only when these go down). Round Digger now can launch dynamite sticks when its hanging on the ceiling, and will bounce all over the screen, if the player doesn't jump when the Round Digger hits the ground, they will get stunned (similar to many heavy-body type bosses in the Mega Man series). The earthquakes produced by its jumps can make the player fall off the platforms.

Round Borer, serial number CDN. 502-0, is a more powerful variant of the Round Digger. It is the second of two sub-bosses of the Robot Factory stage.

Boss Battle Edit

The Round Borer has more health than the Round Digger and uses more powerful versions of its attacks, as well as one new attack. The room in which the Round Borer is fought is also larger than that of the Round Digger. It is otherwise similar to the Round Digger.

The Round Borer's first attack is a charge forward, similar to that of the Round Digger. It travels a greater distance due to the increased size of the room, but is otherwise the same.

The Round Borer will launch sticks of dynamite on propellers as well, but will launch three instead of the Round Digger's two.

The Round Borer will blast the ceiling with water in the same fashion as the Round Digger, but can cause either four or five blocks of rubble to fall. There are no gaps in the trail of falling rubble, making this version of the move more difficult to dodge. However, in the case of four falling blocks, the area directly in front of the Round Borer is safe.

The Round Borer has an additional fourth attack, during which it will latch itself onto the ceiling and spray a damaging stream of water downward. It will spray once forward, then backward, stopping momentarily between the two bursts. The player can dodge by dashing ahead of the first stream, then using the momentary stop to retread and stay ahead of the second stream.
